Hot Tub Maintenance - What Every Hot Tub Owner Should Know

AUTHOR: Rupert Clacy

Hot Tub Maintenance

Hot tub maintenance is an essential part of ensuring that your hot tub remains in tiptop shape even after years of use. Familiarizing yourself with all the methods of maintaining your hot tub means that you can save on the cost of hiring professionals to do this for you on a regular basis.

First, you need to have a chemical testing kit. This will guarantee that the levels of PH and sanitizer remain correct and safe for use. You will need to combine or reduce the amount of chemicals so that the PH level is kept between 7.4 and 7.6.

You will also need to remove any excess calcium in the water of the hot tub, since this needs to be kept at a level between one hundred to two hundred milligrams per liter of water only. If you exceed this level, the water could cause some irreparable damage to the hot tub pump and filter. If the calcium level falls below the required range, then the water will look cloudy and some residue will be retained on the walls of the hot tub.

Sanitation of hot tub water can be done by placing bromine in tablet form. You can also use chlorine since it liquefies quickly. Both chemicals are just as effective in eliminating all kinds of bacteria in the hot tub.

Using the hot tub regularly entails that sweat and other natural body fluids and oils will combine with the water. You can remedy this problem by oxidizing the water through non-chlorine shock.

Hot Tub Maintenance - Keeping the Water Clean and Safe

The amount of time that the water can be kept in the hot tub is dependent on a number of factors, including how often it is used, the number of people using it and the size of the hot tub. The simplest calculation for this would be to divide the amount of water in the tub by the number of people who regularly use it. After that, divide the quotient by 12. The answer is the frequency with which the water should be changed, by number of days.

Once you have changed the water, you should allow a reasonable amount of time to pass so that the water can circulate freely. After that, you can retest the PH and calcium levels once again. You can also purchase oil scum remover in most hardware stores so that it can be added to the hot tub water as well.

If you are adding chemicals to the water in the hot tub, make sure that you add them one a time. Mixing them will reduce the potency and might also cause some adverse reactions. Part of hot tub maintenance includes running it for three to six hours a day even if you aren't using it to filter the water.
