Hot Tub Installation - Two Things Everyone Should Consider

AUTHOR: Andrew Collins

Hot Tub Installation

Before going ahead with your hot tub installation plans, there are several considerations that must be made. First, you must find a location in your home where the hot tub can be suitably placed. You can decide whether you would like to place the hot tub indoors or outdoors depending on the climate and weather conditions in your area.

When placing a hot tub indoors, you will have to contend with the amount of moisture that this will generate as well as the possible leaks that could come about. Some amount of steam will still seep through and leave the room where the hot tub is located. You will also be using some chemicals for maintaining the hygiene in the hot tub such as chlorine and the odor may not be very welcome inside your home. Some pipes may develop leaks over time, despite the claims of many of the manufacturers of hot tubs so you need to weigh your options early on.

You also need to leave some room for hot tub equipment, which need to be placed at a distance of at least five feet away from the tub. By placing the equipment farther from the hot tub, the noise level will be lessened. On the other hand, this could also cause the pressure of the water to fall.

If you are placing the hot tub outdoors, you should also prepare a solid pad where the tub will be placed on. It has to be able to withstand the weight of the entire tub, not just when it is empty but when it is completely filled with water. You also need to factor in the weight of the people when they use the hot tub, which could total about three thousand pounds.

If snow falls in the outdoor area where you are placing the tub, it is also recommended that you place footings below the frost line since there may be some movement once winter comes. It is also advisable that the padding be made of concrete to prevent any settling and movement from affecting the position of the hot tub, specifically when placed outdoors.

Hot Tub Installation - Who's Doing It For You?

A second factor to consider would be the company doing the installation since the building and remodeling codes for a particular area must be taken into account as well. You may be a do it yourself homemaker who will be able to tap into the electric and gas lines inside your house and do the installation without a need for professional assistance. However, some localities will require that you hire the services of a company that is licensed in the field of hot tub installation.
