Hot Tub Filter - Ensuring the Cleanliness of Your Hot Tub

AUTHOR: Keith Vablanche

Hot Tub Filter

The hot tub filter is most important for the maintenance of your hot tub. It's like the kidney of your hot tub, as it keeps the water clean and free from dirt and other forms of impurities.

The quality of your hot tub filter has a great impact on the time and effort you will need to put into the maintenance of your hot tub. Naturally, you would want to spend more time enjoying in the hot tub than making sure that it is clean. With a good filtration and purification system, you will have the assurance that you are soaking in clean water, away from the possibilities of health problems caused by the dirt that gets into your tub. You are then able to truly use your hot tub in promoting your health.

Types of Hot Tub Filters

When buying a hot tub filter, you should consider the type you would like to buy, as well as the features that come with it. Note, too that some hot tub filters have programmable functions to help busy people maintain their hot tubs.

Below are some of the common types of hot tub filters.

Diatomaceous Earth Filters (DE Filters). This type of hot tub filter is just like most filters, that is, it is made of mesh screens. The difference is that the mesh screen is coated with diatomaceous earth, which absorbs or sucks in tiny particles of dirt.

Diatomaceous earth is made of natural elements, as it consists of powdered petrified bones. As with the human bone, the DE also contains spongy holes. It is into these holes that microscopic dirt is sucked. With this type of hot tub filter, your hot tub will be spared from chemicals that can possibly harm your health.

One thing you have to note is that the government has regulations for the proper disposal of this filter.

Sand Filter. This type of hot tub filter is made up of a specific amount of sand and gravel. It cleanses the water by trapping impurities in between the sand and gravel. One disadvantage is that this type of hot tub filter is capable of filtering out only large-sized dirt and impurities, but fails to catch the tiny ones.

Because of this, your sand filter must be installed with a coagulate. The coagulate enlarges the tiny particles of dirt, so that the sand filter can catch them. The sand in a sand filter must also be replaced every few years.

Cartridge Filter. This is the most commonly used hot tub filter. Dacron is used in the manufacture of this type of filter. Dacron is a type of mesh that has little pleats. It is these pleats that are responsible for removing impurities from the water.
