Hot Tub Pump - The Heart of the Hot Tub

AUTHOR: Jenny Fabrizio

Hot Tub Pump

A hot tub pump is one of the crucial parts that allow your hot tub to run in perfect condition. Its main task is to transfer the water from the supply in the pipes in your home and into the hot tub. It ensures that it passes through the filter first so that bacteria and residue are cleared and then to through the heater so that it attains the right temperature.

When investing in a hot tub, the pump has to be hard-wearing and sturdy for it to withstand constant usage. Make sure that you find one with an extended warranty so that you can use your hot tub for many years. There is usually a seal placed in the motor of the pump to prevent any leaks from developing. This seal should not be affected even by the chemicals like chlorine and bromine that you regularly place in the water in your hot tub.

Keep in mind that the pump in your hot tub is not the same as ordinary water pumps and has different classifications. It has a higher capacity when it comes to the flow of water so that it is always readily available and will prevent the hot tub from overheating.

It is also recommended that you get a pump for your hot tub that is surrounded by rubber mounting so that it can be turned on without disrupting the peace and quiet in your home. The rubber mounting assists in eliminating the noise of the pump without affecting the way it functions.

Hot Tub Pump - How to Detect if it is Defective

There are a number of signs that you should look out for which may be indicative that the pump in your hot tub is showing signs of wear and tear. If the pump seems louder than usual and if you encounter difficulty in turning it on and off, there could be a malfunction that has not been detected. If your hot tub is placed outdoors, you should also check the pump periodically to ensure that the parts did not freeze during the winter. The ball bearings inside the pump could also cause an abnormal whirring sound that needs to be checked as soon as possible before the pump conks out completely.

If you notice a puddle of water in the area near the pump, then there may be a leak that needs to be addressed immediately. You are not required to know how a pump works if you own a hot tub, but knowing and looking out for these danger signs will alert you early on so that you can ask for assistance from a licensed professional in repairing your hot tub pump.
