Hot Tub and Spa Chemicals Make For Safer Dips in Hot Tubs

AUTHOR: Kevin Angstall

Hot Tub And Spa Chemicals

Keeping a steady supply of hot tub and spa chemicals on hand will help ensure that each dip in the tub is safe and germ-free. It is important to monitor the water's chemical content on a regular basis if hot tub owners are to keep their tubs clean and free of impurities. The first time a person fills up his tub, he'll be given instructions on how to apply the hot tub chemicals and use them in balanced proportions.

Monthly Upkeep Using Hot Tub and Spa Chemicals

Each time the tub is drained for cleaning (usually between two and three months depending on frequency of use) the hot tub and spa chemicals will have to be applied again. Close to half a dozen chemicals need to be added in the appropriate amounts. Keep the instructions list handy in case you forget the exact chemicals measurements.

For monthly maintenance, owners need to clean the filter cartridges of their tubs using cartridge cleaners. Obtaining water samples will also be necessary to adequately check water balance levels. Shock treatments and periodic cleaning of tub filters should also be done each month.

Weekly Upkeep Using Hot Tub and Spa Chemicals

Hot tub and spa chemicals should be used weekly to test for alkalinity, pH and bromine levels. In order to maintain the levels needed to keep microbes at a safe distance, around three to six tablets of bromine should be added to the tub water.

The scum bugs and scum balls that are used to prevent waterline ring formations in the tub need to be rinsed out and placed back into the water afterwards. They will be left in the tub until such time that the owner is ready to use his tub again. Other chemicals will also have to be added.

Daily Upkeep Using Hot Tub and Spa Chemicals

Some hot tub and spa chemicals require daily application. People need to make certain that their spa or hot tub water is filtering at low speeds for a minimum of two to three hours per day. They should also double-check that their bromine floaters always have tablets in them - except of course, when they're actually using the tub. When not in use, scum bugs and balls should be placed in the tub. For hot tubs with ozonators, such gizmos should be allowed to run at low speeds for a period no less than three hours.

Owning a spa or hot tub can be a lot of work. There are numerous chemicals to keep track of. These come in a variety of price ranges. Shopping around will help you wind up with the best possible prices. Sometimes the coolest deals will be found over the Internet. Taking time to look for the best hot tub and spa chemicals deals can lead to significant savings in terms of overall hot tub maintenance.
